According to 2006 census, California has an appraised population of 37,172,015, and is the thirteenth quickly-growing state. According to Census, California has a population of 61.9% White American, 6% Black or African American, 10.4% Asian American, 18.4% some other race, 1.7% American Indian, 2.1% mixed race. 38.5% are Hispanic or Latino (of any race). 40.3% of the population is non-Hispanic whites. California has the fifth largest population of African Americans in the U.S., an estimated 2,163,530 residents. California's Native American population of 350,000 is the biggest of any state.
