Gay & Lesbian in LA

In Los Angeles County there is no definitive population for the gay and lesbian. Studies of populations about gay and lesbian in the United States vary from 1 to 10 percent of the general male population and 1 to 6 percent of the general female population. In the Urban areas are believed to have higher percentages than in the rural areas. Results seem be affected by market research studies that promote a strong gay market too. An estimate, for example, that 4 percent of males and 2 percent of females in Los Angeles County are gay or lesbian, in year 2000 estimated gay and lesbian population in Los Angeles County could be 203,771 persons age 18 and over (133,487 males and 70,284 females). For the City of Los Angeles, this could be about 81,056 persons age 18 and over (53,571 males, 27,485 females). This is a population approximately about gay and lesbian but not exactly. Nevertheless the 2000 Census reported only 14,458 people between gays and lesbians. It would probably be incorrect.

The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center offers a wide array of services for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Its clinic and on-site pharmacy offers free and low cost, in health, mental health, HIV/AIDS medical care and HIV/STD testing and prevention.
